  • Text: Henry Patterson
    Was born in Mechanic township, Holmes
    county, Ohio, on June 15, 1840, a mem-
    ber of a pioneer family, and departed
    this life on Sept 1, 1923, thus reaching
    the ripe old age of 83 years, 2 months
    and 17 days. He was united in marriage
    to Mary Vanosdel on Feb 18, 1864 who
    passed to her reward May 28, 1908
    Six children were born to this union,
    two having died in infancy. He re-
    ceived a common school education and
    has filled numerous positions of trust
    with credit to himself The greater
    part of his life was spent on a farm,
    which he successfully conducted In
    early life he united with the Methodist
    church, and he greatly assisted in the
    maintaining of the church at Sand Run,
    at Farver Hill and at Elliotts. After
    leaving the farm he attended the Mil-
    lersburg M. E. church. He was a true
    and devoted Christian and exemplified it
    in his everyday life. He was a kind
    and affectionate husband and father,
    an obliging neighbor always ready to
    extend a helping hand for the comfort
    of others, and his genial disposition
    made him many friends. He leaves to
    mourn his departure, two daughters,
    Mrs. L H. Mast and Mrs. George
    Galley also two sons, David E. and
    William H. Patterson all of Millersburg,
    also three brothers and two sisters. He
    is also survived by fifteen grandchildren
    and four great grandchildren, besides a
    host of friends. The funeral was held
    Monday afternoon at the M. E. church,
    services being conducted by Rev. J. V.
    Findley Interment was made in Oak
    Hill cemetery.
    The family desire to sincerely thank
    those who so kindly rendered assistance
    during the sickness and funeral of their
    father.
