Robbin and I recently decided it was time to take the next steps with exploring both our maternal grandfathers' military service.

William Lee Patterson and Eugene Ernest Ennis both served in the Army in the Pacific theatre during WWII. So off to the NARA website we went and proceeded to complete the necessary request form https://www.archives.gov/personnel-records-center/dd-214

I had performed this once before when requesting the DD-214 [1] for my paternal grandmother Jane Alma Keener who served with the Navy WAVES from 1944-45 as a hospital aid in California.

For a very detailed look at the Navy form and it's pre-1950 predecessor, the NAVPERS 553, you can visit The WWII Navy Report of Separation
